Dirty Dogs Spa, which is my own personal go-to dog groomer for my hairy monster of a golden retriever, will host it’s 4th annual Pet Extravaganza at Joyner Park in Wake Forest on Saturday, September 24th and Sunday, September 25th, from 9 am – 4 pm. The pet-friendly event raises money and collects food donations for local animal rescues.
The event will feature Ultimate Air Dogs, a fun dock jumping competition open to all breeds and sizes of dogs (as long as they can swim!) that was founded by former Detroit Tigers pitcher Milt Wilcox and his son in 2005.
There will also be numerous seminars on topics such as microchipping, service dogs, pet safety, and vaccinations, as well as fun pet competitions such as best trick and pet owner look-alike contests. Local food trucks and music will also be available throughout each day.
This is Dirty Dogs’ first year at Joyner, a 117 acre facility at 701 Harris Road in Wake Forest, where many Wake Forest residents enjoy miles of bike and walking trails and live concerts throughout the spring and summer months. The new location should provide plenty of space for the growing event.
Last year’s Pet Extravaganza raised over 10,000 pounds of dog and cat food for local shelters and rescue organizations, and placed more than twenty pets in permanent homes.
Dirty Dogs Spa is owned by Vanessa Davis, a friendly and philanthropic dog owner who opened the facility in 2012. Located at 929 Heritage Lake Road, it offers both full and self-service dog grooming, specialty pet products, and dog training classes. Davis also owns Trail Dog Outfitters, a human apparel line of t-shirts and hats for dog and outdoor enthusiasts.
