I have about a million things to do between now and Monday. Okay, that’s an exaggeration but still, there’s a lot.
Aside from finishing up some interviews, articles, and blog posts, there’s laundry, swim lessons to teach, meeting with the high schooler who’ll be bunnysitting for me, the purchase of some new unmentionables so’s I do not run out during my trip, and packing.
Amidst all of this, I’m dealing with two kids whose school year has ended and apparently feel the need to be entertained 24/7, worry about whether my suitcase will end up being too heavy, wondering whether I should turn off the water before I go or if I’m being overly paranoid and if I do turn off the water, should I also turn off the hot water heater as well. Oh, and pretty constant internet research about just how bad 117 degree heat really is. Because, yeah, there’s going to be an unprecedented heatwave where I’m going. Do car tires melt?
I did manage to send off a query to a national magazine this week, thanyouverymuch, so I feel like I’ve accomplished something. (If you happen to be an editor for a major national magazine and are reading my stuff to see whether you want to bother with me, I hope you’ll find this post amusing rather than alarming). And I’ve made some lists which, if nothing else, are helping to keep me from completely hyperventilating in a hysterical panic attack.
No, it’s good. I’m ok. As long as there’s wine available at the airport, and on the plane, I’ll be okay. No worries. No. Worries.
